Fall Legal Extern

Shalom Task Force (“STF”) works to combat and prevent domestic violence and foster healthy and safe relationships and families.

Shalom Task Force’s Legal Department provides free high-quality, innovative representation to address the pressing family and immigration legal needs of low-income survivors of domestic abuse specializing in the Jewish community.  We are currently seeking an Extern who can join us for the Fall 2025 Semester working remotely and in person a minimum of 10 hours per week.

Shalom Task Force’s Legal Department has been providing legal services to DV victims throughout New York State for over a decade. The project has pioneered DV advocacy and litigation tailored to the specific needs of the Jewish population and has been an innovative leader in addressing both cultural competency and legal services in the community.  The Legal Department does not discriminate and provides services to anyone regardless of race, religion, nationality, sex, gender, or sexual orientation. We provide advice, counsel, and representation to victims of domestic violence in orders of protection, custody and visitation, child and spousal support, divorce, and immigration cases.

Among other duties, under attorney supervision the Extern will work directly with callers by conducting intake, and assisting with motion practice, discovery / document review, document drafting, trial preparation, and legal research. The Extern will also work on a number of longer-term projects and administrative functions as they come up and have the opportunity to observe Court proceedings and client consultations.

This externship is unpaid and is intended for students seeking academic credit from their school.
