Chatline Specialist (Part Time)

Position Overview
Shalom Task Force is seeking a compassionate, organized, and collaborative professional to join our Hotline Services team as a Chatline Specialist.
The Chatline Specialist will play a key role in the day-to-day operation of STF’s confidential text- and chat-based support services. Working closely with the Hotline Services Manager and Director of Hotline Services, the Specialist will provide direct Chatline coverage, support and guide volunteer advocates, review chat documentation, assist with training and quality assurance, and help ensure that individuals reaching out through digital platforms receive responsive, survivor-centered support.
This role is particularly well suited for an early-career social work or helping professional interested in domestic violence services, crisis intervention, digital support services, and volunteer development.
Key Responsibilities
Provide regular coverage for STF’s confidential Chatline.
Respond directly to individuals reaching out through text- and chat-based platforms with survivor-centered support, safety planning, information, and referrals.
Provide real-time support and consultation to volunteer advocates staffing the Chatline.
Assist advocates with use of Chatline technology, Salesforce, and related systems.
Review volunteer advocate chat documentation and provide appropriate feedback and support under the guidance of the Hotline Services Manager.
Support adherence to STF’s Chatline protocols, communication standards, and documentation practices.
Assist with onboarding and training new Chatline advocates.
Help develop and implement ongoing Chatline-focused in-service trainings and skill-building opportunities.
Identify common themes, questions, and challenges emerging through Chatline contacts and communicate trends to the Hotline Services Manager and Director.
Support maintenance and updating of STF’s referral directory and resource database.
Help identify appropriate referrals for chatters, including domestic violence, mental health, legal, social service, shelter, and other community resources.
Assist with data collection, documentation review, quality assurance, and program reporting.
Participate in regular Hotline Services department meetings and agency staff meetings.
Collaborate with Hotline staff to support continuity of services and cross-coverage as needed.
Provide Hotline coverage when needed and appropriate.
Attend relevant trainings and workshops to remain current on domestic violence, crisis intervention, trauma-informed care, safety planning, digital crisis response, and survivor-centered practice.
Assist with special departmental projects and initiatives as assigned.
Potential opportunity to supervise MSW interns when qualified and appropriate, including completion of SIFI certification when eligible.
Qualifications & Requirements
Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field.
Recent graduates and early-career professionals are encouraged to apply.
Strong interest in domestic violence services, crisis intervention, victim services, or related work.
Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to communicate with warmth, clarity, and sensitivity in a text-based environment.
Ability to respond thoughtfully and efficiently to individuals experiencing difficult or complex circumstances.
Familiarity with Jewish communal life and Jewish culture.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and maintain accurate documentation.
Strong computer and technology skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also working independently when needed.
This is a part-time, hybrid position, generally 20–28 hours per week.
The schedule includes evening availability, with specific hours determined based on Hotline coverage needs and department scheduling.
Some local travel may be required for trainings, meetings, or programming. Occasional travel for presentations or conferences may also be requested.
The current Chatline Specialist role is structured as a hybrid position of 20–28 hours per week and includes evening hours.
Compensation
Salary Range: $28,000–$45,000 annually, commensurate with experience and hours worked per week.
This is a salaried, part-time position.
